5 Lies The Enemy Uses To Deceive Us

Mankind has an enemy. The bible says that the devil comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10). He wants to utterly destroy God’s plans and purpose for our life and to ultimately destroy us through deception.

In fact, in John 8:44, Jesus calls satan a liar and describes him as the father of lies. In this post I discuss five lies he uses to try to deceive us. Learn to recognize and reject the enemy’s lies that undermine your walk with God.

he Is As powerful as god

1)In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2)The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:1-2 ESV

There is only one God. He is the creator of all things. As the creator, God has no rival and no equal. How can a created being be equal or greater than his creator? The Bible says satan was high ranking among the heavenly hosts, but fell because of pride. He wanted to be equal to God. Only God is omnipotent, omniscient , and omnipresent.

God Does Not Love Us or Care For Us

The enemy uses this tactic when we are experiencing storms in our life. If you’ve lost a loved one, job, home, diagnosed with an illness, or experienced some other difficulty, the enemy will try to convince you that God doesn’t love you or care for you because he allowed you to go through this difficult experience. He will also try to convince you that God is holding out on you because he has not answered your prayer for something you have been praying for an extended period of time. God never promised us a comfortable life. Instead He expressed His great love for us by giving us something far greater. He offered us a plan of redemption through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. He gave up His only son to take the punishment we deserved for our sins.

Disobedience is Harmless

One of the most destructive lies of the enemy is that disobedience is harmless. When in fact, it costs us our life and can cost us our place in eternity if we do not repent. Adam and Eve lost their place in the garden because of disobedience, but more importantly it cost them their nearness to God (See Genesis 3). King Saul disobeyed God‘s command to destroy Agag, the Amalekite king, all of the Amalekite people, including men, women, and children as well as all of their livestock. Saul was to spare nothing (See 1 Samuel 15.) Because of Saul’s disobedience God rejected him as king and gave his throne to another who was more worthy. Delayed or partial obedience is still disobedience.

Christ Is Not God

The Bible says that Jesus was God in the flesh. He was the word made flesh. He existed in the beginning and all things were made through Him.

1)In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2)He was in the beginning with God. 3)All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3

14)And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

We Have No Authority

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
Luke 10:19

The bible says that Christ has given us authority over all the power of the enemy. That means we have spiritual authority over demonic forces and influences. When God made Adam, he gave Adam dominion over the Earth. When Adam sinned, he lost his authority to the enemy. However, through Christ’s finished work on the cross, we have been given back our authority. The only power the devil has over us is the power we give him through sinning.

Knowing who Christ is and who you are in him will help keep you from being deceived by the enemy’s lies. Get to know him through reading the bible.
