Do You Have The Mind of Christ?

Perspective

To have the mind of Christ is to have the same perspective as Jesus. To have his perspective means prioritizing spiritual wisdom over worldly thinking. This involves having compassion for others, surrendering our desires, and living a life of obedience to God. In John 5:19, 1Jesus asserts His dependence on the Father and His distinct role subordinate to the Father’s will and plan. It is impossible for Jesus to act in any way that would somehow place Him in opposition to the Father.

Jesus knew the Father’s will and he knew what his purpose was on earth. He kept his focus on his eternal mission.

Key Aspects of the Mind of Christ
  • Kingdom Focus: Prioritizing God’s will, purpose, and plans over worldly ambitions
  • Selflessness: Focusing on serving others rather than ourself. Philippians 2:5-7
  • Humility and Obedience: Laying down our will to. Philippians 2:8.
  • Discernment: Recognizing and understanding spiritual truths through guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Can we have the same mind as Christ? Paul teaches the Corinthians that we have the mind of Christ. He explains that human intellect cannot understand and accept the things of the Spirit or God. However, as believers in Christ we have access to God’s wisdom which surpasses our human intellect and aligns with the perspective of Christ.

14) The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15)The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16)“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ
1 Corinthians 2:14-16 ESV

A Transformed Mind

Romans tells us that a transformed, spiritual mind is necessary to understand God’s will and the deeper spiritual realities.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2 ESV

Is your focus solely on the things that are happening on this earth? It’s hard sometimes to focus on those things that are eternal when we have to deal with or are confronted with the very real things on this earth. Being eternally focused does not mean we have our head up in the clouds are so heavenly focused that we are no good on this earth. Everything that we do here on this earth should be because of our eternal focus which means doing the will of God, walking in the ways of Jesus Christ and having his perspective.

How to Cultivate the Mind of Christ
